Current Recommended 75#

Last updated: June 23, 2026 Recommended shell: Classic Golgari Cauldron / Green Sun’s Zenith Yawgmoth Status: The list I would run at an event this week.

This is the current baseline I would register: a classic Golgari Cauldron/GSZ Yawgmoth shell with a light Chord of Calling package. The goal is to stay centered on real Yawgmoth gameplay while preserving post-board access to high-impact bullets.

Why this build
#

The list keeps the best-performing recent core: 4 Badgermole Cub, 4 Delighted Halfling, 4 Agatha’s Soul Cauldron, 3 Green Sun’s Zenith, and the compact Yawgmoth / Ballista / Cauldron kill structure.

Recent successful lists have been split between more classic Cauldron/GSZ builds and adjacent Samwise/Birthing Ritual/Chord shells. I prefer staying closer to classic Yawgmoth. The deck is still at its best when Yawgmoth is a real engine, not merely a backup plan inside a broader creature-combo shell.

The 2 Chord of Calling package is the compromise. Chord improves post-board access to Endurance, Outland Liberator, Soulless Jailer, Sephiroth, Yawgmoth, and other corner-case bullets without fully turning the deck into a Ritual/Chord toolbox deck.

The sideboard is aimed at the actual pressure points of the current Modern field: Fatal Push for Energy, Prowess, and creature-combo decks; Force of Vigor and Outland Liberator for artifact engines and hate pieces; Fulminator Mage for Eldrazi, Tron, and Titan-style mana; and Thoughtseize, Vexing Bauble, Endurance, and Soulless Jailer for combo, stack, and graveyard decks.

Main flex slots
#

  • Third Forest. The extra basic is a hedge against recent land-destruction pressure and helps keep the mana functional through longer games.
  • Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER. The deck has survived without Blood Artist-style effects for a while, but Sephiroth is appearing in recent Yawgmoth lists and is worth testing as a compact finisher/bullet.
  • Third Yawgmoth versus fourth Yawgmoth. I am currently on 3, but this is one of the first numbers to revisit if the deck needs to be more direct.
  • Second Endurance main or side. The current split gives access without overloading on reactive cards.
  • Chord of Calling count. Two copies give access to bullets without forcing the whole deck to become a Chord deck.
